About Primer

Fixing our K-12 education system is a civilizationally-important problem. We believe that all of our problems — including the ones that dominate the headlines — are downstream of education.

We have a simple thesis on how to solve it: empower 1,000's of educators to launch microschools in their communities.

We believe the historical tradeoff between price (tuition) and quality is a false dichotomy.

PrimerOS automates and eliminates much of the costs of traditional schools. Microschools have a structural advantage — asset-light real estate — which means much lower capex and opex. You put it together, and you get something that's never existed before: a world-class education that's accessible to normal American families and can rapidly scale.

The Role

Primer is looking for an exceptional candidate for this high-impact role. The GL Accountant will support Primer’s Head of Finance and Controller in the accurate maintenance of the Company’s financial books, records, and accounting policies.

Responsibilities

  • The core responsibility of the GL Accountant will be to support the company’s month-end close procedures and maintenance of associated workpapers in accordance with GAAP and best practices

  • Manage the entire fixed asset lifecycle from acquisition to disposal. This involves tracking capital expenditures, calculating and recording monthly depreciation and amortization, and performing periodic reconciliations of fixed asset accounts.

  • You will coordinate with our Revenue / Receivables team to drive a timely, precise cash applications motion

  • Execute month-end close activities, including preparing and posting journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and analyzing balance sheet and income statement accounts

  • Reconcile intercompany accounts and ensure proper elimination entries are made for consolidating multiple legal entities

  • Assist in preparing schedules and providing documentation for annual financial audits

  • Interface with our accounts payable team to ensure appropriate classification of expenses and enforce best practices

Qualifications and Requirements

  • At least 5 years’ experience as an in-house accounting professional preparing month-end close reconciliations for all balance sheet accounts

  • A completed university degree in accounting; CPA (or similar international charter) preferred but not required

  • Strong proficiency with NetSuite and Ramp is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs) and Google Sheets is required.

  • Comprehensive familiarity with GAAP accounting; advanced proficiency in lease accounting is a plus but not required

  • Dedication to our mission + the role: you should love accounting and be inspired by our mission of helping advance K-8 education

  • Ability to pass an international background check and provide satisfactory references

  • High attention to detail and accuracy, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication and organizational skills.
