About you

We’re looking for an ACAS or a near-ACAS actuarial analyst with 3-5 years of P&C experience to join the Actuarial and Insurance team at Shepherd. You will work cross-functionally with our insurance, underwriting, product, and engineering teams to support our ratemaking and product design functions. You’ll get exposed to life at an early-stage startup and help build a strong culture for the actuarial team and beyond.

You would be a dream candidate if...

  • Pre-ACAS or ACAS level candidate with 3-5 years of P&C experience
  • You preferably have experience is commercial lines ratemaking
  • You hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative subject such as actuarial science, statistics, mathematics, or finance
  • You are comfortable using Excel, SQL or R for data analysis and modeling purposes
  • You are organized and have the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously
  • You are curious and eager to design, build and manage actuarial models; and
  • You have exceptional interpersonal communication skills (verbal & written)

About the role:

Shepherd is building a better and faster way to underwrite property & casualty insurance, using new and innovative data sources. Our goal is to leverage our technology and data to make quick, informed, underwriting decisions tailored to our clients’ specific needs.

The successful candidate will:

  • Lead the development of new and help maintain existing ratemaking models for P&C lines of business
  • Perform rate level analysis and line profitability studies
  • Assist with regulatory rate filings
  • Evaluate and aggregate industry loss experience data using prescribed actuarial techniques
  • Interface with external partners such as compliance agencies, actuarial consultants, and regulatory authorities
  • Be adaptable and creative in a fast paced startup environment
  • Effectively communicate with underwriting, product and engineering teams and manage internal cross-functional communication. Strong teamwork and communication skills are a must!
  • Support for ongoing Actuarial exams will be provided by Shepherd
