Rivet is a tax prep firm, designed to make tax season less taxing.

We're an AI-enabled corporate & personal tax prep firm, supporting 1,000+ of the most innovative founders and their companies — including Cursor, Cognition Labs, and ModRetro. We work with hundreds of executives, HNWIs, and venture capitalists as part of our corporate offering, combining corporate tax, personal taxes, R&D credits, and bookkeeping in one firm to make tax season take as little of our clients' time as possible, without leaving any tax savings on the table.

We're growing quickly, well-funded, and backed by XYZ Ventures, Susa Ventures, and Haystack Ventures, alongside operators from Ramp, Stripe, Deel, and others. And while we may have just gotten started a little over two years ago, this isn't our first rodeo:

  • Nick Abouzeid (cofounder & CEO) ran three growth teams at Ramp and previously led marketing at MainStreet ($3M → $15M ARR in 2 years)

  • Kyle Christenson (cofounder & Head of Tax) spent six years auditing at the IRS, then joined MainStreet to handle their most complex claims

Why this role is different

Most firms treat the 1040 as the third or fourth thing they do for a founder. We treat it as the through-line: a founder's QSBS, equity comp, multi-state exposure, K-1s, and trusts all run through one human who actually understands the full picture.

You're the face of the firm for a designated portfolio of founders, executives, and HNWIs. A high-performing production and technical-review team handles the heavy lifting; you focus on the client experience and the moments where judgment matters.

Most tax orgs optimize for billable hours and turnaround time. We optimize for the things that actually matter:

  • Own the relationship, not just the return – you're the human a founder texts when they're early-exercising in a vesting window, when their spouse takes a board seat, or when they're moving from CA to FL. The return is the byproduct of getting that conversation right.

  • No time-tracking – we don't track hours. We value results and empathy over arbitrary time-tracking.

  • Lean on the platform, not against it – our internal AI ingests every email, Slack message, Zoom transcript, and document, so most of the data-entry portion of the return is handled by the time it hits your desk. Your job is the diagnostic, the strategy, and the conversation.

  • Client experience as a craft – our clients are young, dynamic, and expect a premium experience. The bar is "they'd recommend us to their cofounders."

What you'll do

  • Manage the 1040 and 1041 lifecycle. Run the diagnostic review to ensure every return is accurate and every strategy is sound before it hits the client's desk.

  • Be the equity expert. Provide guidance on QSBS, 83(b) elections, ISOs/NSOs/RSUs, secondaries, and the rest of the founder/exec equity surface area.

  • Coordinate with our corporate tax team so personal planning aligns with company strategy — this is the whole point of the one-firm model.

  • Lead virtual client meetings for quarterly projections, year-end planning, and ad-hoc questions year-round.

  • Make the system better. Pattern-match across your portfolio, flag what should be templatized, and partner with engineering and ops to turn one-off work into repeatable steps.

  • Communicate fast, clearly, and proactively. We're a product-first firm, and clients notice when their preparer is too.

What makes you a fit

  • 3–5 years of hands-on 1040 experience, including a portfolio of founders, execs, or HNWIs

  • Comfort with founder-specific complexity: equity comp, QSBS, multi-state residency, K-1 reporting

  • You can look at a prepared return and immediately spot an error or an advisory opportunity

  • Genuine care for the people behind the numbers — pride in helping a founder navigate their financial journey

  • Strong written communication; you can take a complicated tax question and answer it in three sentences a non-tax person can act on

Nice to haves

  • 1041 / Trusts & Estates experience

  • CPA or EA designation (and if you don't have one yet, we provide the roadmap and financial support to help you get it)

  • Past experience inside a firm that serves VC-backed founders or family offices

What we offer

  • Generous cash comp with meaningful equity upside

  • Fully remote, with twice-yearly company offsites

  • A modern tech stack — no SmartVault, no ShareFile, no PDF email tag — built specifically to make your work faster and your clients happier

  • Support from a global, ex-Big-4 production and review bench so you spend your time on judgment work, not data entry

  • A book of clients who actually appreciate good work and pay accordingly

  • CPA/EA roadmap with financial support if you don't yet have credentials
