About the Role
We're looking for a technical, curious, and also good person to lead a lot of credit initiatives at Nelo, a leading consumer lender in Mexico.
Types of things you might work on:
Core credit risk segmentation; which groups of users are performing better or worse than our models expected? Also automating this more.
Analysis and experiments related to line assignment, loan duration, product access, account valuation, and pricing
Collaborate closely with data science to create/suggest features for them to include in models
Loss forecasting
Portfolio stress testing
Making charts for portfolio observability

Investor diligence
Being technical (writing SQL, making charts, some python) is table stakes. In this role you’ll be pushed beyond your current analytical boundaries. You’ll need to learn new skills, and sometimes you’ll be the only one who really knows what those new skills should be. Regardless of how analytical you are today, you’re probably the type of person who aims to ~double that over the next five years.
It’s also important for you to be curious to succeed in this role. We have a huge amount of data at our disposal, and there are nearly unlimited combinations of the data that could be tested or used, and it will take some judgment and plain curiosity to cut through the noise and unlock previously undiscovered patterns, features, and trends.
Qualifications
Can be flexible on experience but I’m imagining 2-8 years of experience in credit risk strategy / analytics, with at least some of that being in consumer lending.
Advanced proficiency in SQL, and you’re at least not a stranger to Python.
Excited about building with AI. Maybe you’ve made a personal or work app in Claude Code, for example.
Experience with credit in LATAM, particularly Mexico, is preferred (but not required).

I really like pretty charts so if you have above-average chart design aptitude, that would be properly appreciated here.
About Nelo
Nelo is building a modern alternative to a credit card, designed from first principles for a world of real-time and mobile payments. Our mission is to increase the buying power of consumers in Latin America.
I’ve worked at a number of fintechs now, and Nelo really stands out. The founders, Kyle and Stephen, are world class operators that brought the experimentation culture from Uber and applied it to a lending company in Mexico. The result after years of compounding is incredible; it must be near the top of its vintage (2019) for lending fintechs. We’re at a nearly $60mm annualized revenue run rate, and are profitable on a net basis (though not much, since we reinvest as much would-be profit as we can back into growth), all with ~45 people at the company.
We’ve raised from some of the best investors, including Homebrew, Two Sigma Ventures and Susa Ventures. We also have plenty of debt capital from reputable lenders. We're a relatively senior and technical team, and we pride ourselves on our velocity, intellectual rigor, and efficiency. This isn’t financial advice or whatever, but I’ll be honest, I'm excited about the value of my equity. Come build with the team and I!
