About the Workplace & Events Manager role
Float is in the process of expanding our office and we are looking for a Workplace & Events Manager who is passionate about creating an inspiring and supportive work environment. This role will be part of our People Team, reporting into Float’s Chief People Officer. As part of our fast-growing company, you'll have a significant impact on shaping the workplace experience at Float. In this role, you will be responsible for managing our new office space, organizing internal events and offsites, and providing essential support for the day-to-day office experience. This role requires you to be in the office 5 days a week (we are located at Adelaide & Spadina in Toronto).
If you are known for being a go-getter and have a “get sh*t done” mindset, then this could be the role for you!
In this role, you’ll be responsible for:
- Masterfully owning the workplace experience at Float; you’ll be the face of the day-to-day office operations to ensure everything is running smoothly and seamlessly. This includes making sure supplies are stocked, equipment is in top shape, coordinating timely lunch order deliveries and in general, upholding a warm, welcoming atmosphere for both employees and guests. Your enthusiasm will play a key role in making everyone feel comfortable and supported, guiding them to the resources they’re looking for and making sure they have everything they need.
- Providing expert facilities management; a key aspect of your role will be overseeing the upkeep of our facilities by ensuring our work space is clean, organized and properly maintained. You will act as a liaison with building management and external vendors (such as cleaners and contractors) to address any necessary repairs or services with a sense of urgency. Additionally, as we expand our office to a new floor, you will provide support with the expansion operations by assisting with the transition of equipment and supplies.
- Being the champion of employee events & communications; you will take the lead in organizing and executing engaging company events, both virtual and in-person, including company-level socials, gatherings, offsites, and our weekly IRL all-hands meetings. You’ll manage every aspect of event coordination, from the initial planning stages to handling logistics vendor management, preparing materials, managing budget, setting up equipment, coordinating catering, and ensuring a smooth post-event wrap-up. Your attention to detail and organizational skills will be key to delivering seamless, memorable experiences for the team.
You’ll be great in this role if:
- You’ve got the experience. You’re a high performing individual with a track record of operational experience in a high growth startup environment. You’re familiar with what comes with being part of a scaling company and you truly enjoy every part of the workplace experience. Given your experience, you are also comfortable making independent decisions and following your instincts to be able to move with a sense of urgency.
- You’re resilient, adaptable and highly proactive. You have the ability to anticipate needs, handle unexpected changes with grace and flexibility. You can speak to how you’ve taken ownership over challenging situations and shifting priorities, all while being able to stay calm under pressure. Most importantly, you are extremely resourceful and a natural problem solver.
- You’re a critical thinker. You’re a pro at connecting the dots and helping people understand the impact of various decisions. You aren’t a box checker and go beyond the standard questions to get a greater understanding.
- You’re an amazing teammate. You’re someone who is genuinely friendly, warm, and respectful toward colleagues. The right candidate will contribute to a positive office culture and foster good relationships across the team. A can-do attitude is key to making everyone feel comfortable and valued.
- You’re happy to come into the office 5 days a week. This is an in-office role that requires a strong presence in the workplace each day to ensure consistency and availability for team members. First priority will be for candidates who live in the city.
- You can lift up to 10lbs. This includes handling delivery orders, supplies, and other items as needed.
Don’t meet every single requirement? If you’re excited about this role, and you strongly align with our values but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this, or other future positions.
