Role

This is Chief of Staff to Sam Rodriques, Edison Scientific's co-founder and CEO. This role is one of the highest-leverage seats in the company: you will sit next to Sam, with a front-row view of how Edison is built and how we are accelerating science. That means running Sam's most critical meetings, owning the projects that fall between teams, and keeping the machine around the CEO tight and fast. You will be the person who makes sure the most important work at Edison actually moves. While at times the job may seem mundane, it means giving you access to—and oftentimes a voice in—conversations and people far beyond what your tenure anywhere else would allow.

Two things matter more than anything else. First, you have to be genuinely bought into Sam and where he is taking Edison. You will carry his thinking into rooms, sometimes to people who disagree. That only works if you believe it. Second, you must have a passion and genuine curiosity for science. This is an absolute-must. We think of this as a roughly 18-month commitment, and later a launchpad into another senior role at Edison or somewhere else.

The role is in our San Francisco office in Dogpatch five days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Run the operating cadence — board prep, executive staff, planning, and KPI reviews — so decisions get made and priorities stay clear across the company.

  • Drive CEO communications: Partner closely on everything CEO-facing. Internal: all-hands, company emails, employee recognition. External: prep for interviews, talks, and speeches.

  • Special projects and strategic support: Take on some of the company's most important cross-functional work that either has no clear owner or where the current owner isn't getting the result Sam needs. Own it end-to-end and drive it to completion.

  • Design and master the support engine around Sam: Make sure everything around the CEO runs smoothly, and step in to unblock when they do not.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of strategic business experience, preferably at a high-growth tech startup, finance or consulting.

  • High-agency and low-ego. You figure out what's needed and just do it.

  • Exceptional organization and follow-through. Nothing falls through the cracks.

  • Strong written and verbal communication. You can write in Sam's voice and speak clearly to anyone from a scientist to a customer to an investor.

  • Comfort in high uncertainty. You get things done without a playbook and without close oversight.

  • AI fluency and enthusiasm — you actively use AI to create leverage in your work and are excited about where it's headed (formal AI experience not required).

  • Willingness to commit ~18 months in this role.

  • Experience in a demanding, fast-moving environment (high-growth startup, consulting, finance, operating roles, or similar).

Bonus points for

  • Bachelor’s in biology or other scientific fields.

  • Prior founder, or early-stage operating experience at an AI company.

  • Experience inside a company that scaled fast.
