As a member of the risk engineering team, you will be responsible for the production of premium through proper risk analysis and effective distribution of our product. In collaboration with the engineering, design, data, and operations team, you will leverage your industry knowledge and broker relationships to develop management liability and professional liability insurance products that brokers are eager to promote to their clients.

AS A PRODUCTION FOCUSED RISK ENGINEER YOU WILL:

  • Achieve and exceed underwriting performance and revenue goals: Underwrite Allied Health professional liability risks in accordance with Counterpart’s procedures and profitability objectives.
  • Price accounts thoughtfully and competitively: Evaluate Allied Health accounts to provide tailored, market-competitive terms while adhering to underwriting guidelines.
  • Manage quote-related communication: Respond to broker inquiries regarding Allied Health products promptly and build trust through consistent, thoughtful interactions.
  • Collaborate on complex exposures: Work closely with the underwriting team to analyze and address unique risks in Allied Health accounts, ensuring comprehensive coverage solutions.
  • Provide market feedback: Recommend enhancements to terms, rates, and guidelines specific to Allied Health, contributing to the continuous improvement of policy forms and endorsements.
  • Bind accounts through broker engagement: Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers to drive submissions and ensure premium growth in the Allied Health sector.
  • Represent Counterpart at industry events: Attend broker meetings and healthcare-related conferences to promote Allied Health professional liability products and foster broker relationships.
  • Influence product development: Contribute insights on the Allied Health sector to improve Counterpart’s tools and services as a key stakeholder in product innovation.
  • Opportunity to become the SME for Allied Health: With proven success, transition into a subject matter expert (SME) role, focusing on product development and innovation within the Allied Health professional liability space.

WE LOOK FOR TEAMMATES WHO HAVE:

  • 5–12 years of underwriting experience: Specific expertise in professional liability insurance, with a focus on Allied Health risks preferred.
  • A network of industry relationships: Brokers, carriers, underwriters, or clients within the professional liability and Allied Health insurance sectors.
  • Expertise in specialty liability products: Proficiency in rating procedures, policy forms, applications, and endorsements, particularly for Allied Health.
  • Broker engagement skills: Proven ability to establish and nurture long-term, profitable partnerships with brokers specializing in Allied Health and professional liability.
  • Confident communicator: Skilled in presenting to internal teams and external stakeholders, with a strong ability to convey complex risk analyses and product insights.
  • Sales and account management success: Demonstrated track record of achieving and exceeding sales and revenue targets in a high-performance environment.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: Enthusiasm for tackling continuous challenges in a high-velocity, innovative workplace.
  • Flexibility for travel: Willingness to travel as needed (minimum of once per month) for broker meetings, conferences, and industry events.
  • Educational background: College degree with 4+ years of relevant work experience in underwriting or professional liability.
  • Growth-oriented perspective: Interest in transitioning into a subject matter expert (SME) role focused on Allied Health product development and future healthcare products.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH:

  • Mike Levins, Head of Insurance: Mike previously was the Head of Broker Relations and US MGA Operations at Hiscox. Mike oversaw the Midwest region with ~20 underwriters offering 13 different product lines, the primary lines being management liability, professional liability, and cyber/technology. His extensive insurance career has afforded Mike strong relationships across hundreds of retail and wholesale brokers. Mike received his BS from Marquette University and MBA from Benedictine University.
  • Tanner Hackett, CEO: Having founded two other major startups, including Button and Lazada, Tanner now spends his time focused on mental health through his philanthropy, Openminded.org, in addition to reading, surfing, yoga, and enjoying the outdoors.
  • Satwik Mysore, Risk Engineer Territory Lead: After graduating with an actuarial science degree, Satwik has spent most of his career at Travelers, where he built one of the largest and most profitable management liability books by forming strong broker relationships.
  • Brad Bahler, Risk Engineer Territory Lead: Brad has over a decade of experience in management liability underwriting. He managed one of the largest books of small business management liability risks at Travelers, where he was known for his deep understanding of coverage, outstanding submission response times, and boundless enthusiasm for the space.
  • Jake O’Donnell, Risk Engineer Territory Lead: Jake started his insurance career at Chubb, where he was able to develop and grow a profitable book of private-for-profit and non-profit management liability business. Jake is known for his exceptional service to industry brokers and his extensive knowledge of management liability. Jake also is a CPCU designation recipient.

Our estimated pay range for this role is $140,000 to $160,000. Base salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, market data, location, internal equitability, and experience.
