- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of technical writers, editors, content designers, content strategists, and illustrators.
- Establish clear roles, career paths, performance metrics, and development plans.
- Foster a culture of quality, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Own the end-to-end documentation strategy and roadmap.
- Define content structures, documentation frameworks, and information architecture.
- Establish and maintain documentation standards, guidelines, and governance processes.
- Introduce scalable documentation operations (versioning, workflows, automation, and localization).
- Oversee creation and maintenance of high-quality technical content, including API docs, user guides, FAQs, SDK documentation, release notes, and in-product content.
- Conduct content audits and enforce quality benchmarks.
- Coordinate peer reviews, SME reviews, and editorial workflows.
- Partner with engineering, product, design, marketing, and customer success to gather information and ensure alignment.
- Participate in product planning cycles, sprint ceremonies, and design reviews.
- Advocate for documentation needs across the organization.
- Own the documentation stack (CMS, version control, publishing tools, static site generators).
- Lead tool evaluations and introduce best-in-class solutions (e. g., DITA, Sphinx, Docusaurus).
- Implement automation for build pipelines and documentation publishing.
- Use analytics to measure documentation consumption, search performance, and content gaps.
- Conduct user testing to refine content structure and discoverability.
- Improve the UX of documentation portals, including navigation, taxonomy, and visual design.
- Champion modern documentation practices: docs-as-code, API automation (OpenAPI), and AI-assisted content generation.
- Stay updated on industry trends and bring new ideas to scale documentation efficiency.
- Present documentation of KPIs and insights to leadership.
- Build business cases for new documentation initiatives, tools, and staffing.
- Demonstrate documentation's impact on product adoption, customer satisfaction, and support reduction.
- 15+ years in technical writing, with at least 5-7 years in leadership roles.
- Proven track record managing documentation teams at scale.
- Deep experience with information architecture, content strategy, and content operations.
- Strong understanding of software development processes and tools (Git, CI/CD, APIs, SDKs).
- Expertise in documentation tooling (Markdown, DITA, Sphinx, Docusaurus, MadCap Flare).
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and storytelling skills.
- Ability to influence executives and drive cross-functional alignment.
