After Thought is pioneering a new paradigm within AI that builds upon the progress of the last decade of deep learning by taking advantage of overlooked ideas and techniques within other areas of AI (e.g., computational cognitive science). You’ll be a Founding Research Engineer at an early-stage startup backed by Tier 1 investors in a market on the precipice of massive economic and technological expansion.

Role and Responsibilities

Founding Research Engineers will accelerate After Thought’s rate of experimentation and development by working alongside Founding Research Scientists to quickly implement and iterate on novel solutions to challenging problems within After Thought’s research mandate.

Because we're still early-stage, your technical contribution will play an outsized role in the development of After Thought’s novel technology and its real-world deployment downstream.

It's important you demonstrate the ability to learn concepts and acquire skills quickly, think outside the box, and efficiently implement and iterate novel AI methodologies.

In this role, you'll be asked to:

• Quickly implement new solutions to challenging problems in AI

• Leverage your knowledge of AI tools to iterate and engineer implementations to optimize for performance and compute.

• Assist research scientists in implementation to accelerate experimentation

• Keep up with state-of-the-art advancements in academia and industry

• Advise After Thought on infra and data strategy

Baseline Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (computer science, mathematics, physics, etc.)

• Demonstrated ability to:

  • Learn complex skills/knowledge hyper-quickly

  • Implement and iterate on AI/ML pipelines hyper-quickly

  • Execute on open-ended problems

  • Incorporate advances in SOTA to improve performance of AI/ML models

Technical Skills

• 3+ years of programming experience

• Proficiency in popular AI/ML languages and libraries (Python, PyTorch, etc.)

Misc.

• Willingness to think and problem-solve outside of the current deep learning / scaling paradigm

• Strong desire to work on trustworthy, reliable, explainable, and controllable AI models

Preferred Qualifications

Education & Experience

• Experience working in an early-stage technical startup

• Experience with project management and small-team leadership

• Experience scaling AI/ML pipelines

Technical Skills

• Familiarity with popular cloud computing platforms

• Familiarity with Bayesian inference and probabilistic programming
